Charla LewisClinical Supervisor
Dr. Charla Lewis is a licensed psychologist, nationally certified school psychologist, and creative arts- infused play therapist in Maryland and Washington DC. She earned her undergraduate degree at University of Texas at Austin and her doctorate from Texas A&M University- College Station. Her post-doctoral fellowship was completed at the University of Maryland Medical System, where she focused on evidence-based therapeutic applications in urban school and home settings. Dr. Lewis has worked in a variety of child/ family oriented settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, juvenile facilities, foster care agencies, and schools, in both direct care and supervisor/ trainer capacities. Along with over 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Lewis has authored/ co-authored a number of published articles and presented numerous workshops and seminars on issues of general mental health, treatment of numerous kinds of trauma exposure, parenting and family dynamics, substance abuse, culturally responsive assessment, risk and resilience in children, and caregiver self-care. In addition to her multi-faceted service delivery and clinical supervision here at BES, Dr. Lewis is a passionate advocate for dispelling mental health stigma through mental health awareness initiatives in local faith communities, recreation centers, and on social media.
