Public Charter Schools
Since 2008 BES has provided Mental Health Support Services to 13 different independent District of Columbia Public Charter Schools, across 19 campuses ranging from pre-k to 12th grade. Each school, is considered a Local Education Agency and enters into a three-year agreement with BES. Across the 13 different schools BES engages in all aspects relevant to providing child mental health services within an academic environment. BES duties include: Consultations with teachers and parents regarding students’ behaviors and learning concerns, Counseling students in individual and group settings, Conducting functional behavioral assessments and developing behavioral intervention plans, Conducting psychological evaluations, Communicating psychological evaluation results to school personnel and families, Diagnosing child and adolescent psychological disorders, Engaging in collaborative solution-focused student intervention teams, Referring children and families in need of prolonged counseling to appropriate community agencies, Provide family outreach to engage parents in their children’s education, and Provide professional development seminars to teachers related to behavior management practices. The contracts are supported by BES’s staff of licensed psychologists, nationally certified school psychologists, the board-certified behavior analyst team, and licensed social-workers with expertise in child and family mental health treatment. BES has supported schools with On-Demand counselors for training and outreach events, and for traumatic, on-site incidences.
