BES supports United States Air-Force Airmen and their families at Ft. Meade, MD by implementing and administering the installation family support portion of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). In coordination with the installation EFMP assignments and medical functions, BES helps identify and enroll special needs family members into the program. BES supports military families with a dependent with special needs by helping them understand and make connections to local resources. BES supports the families and provides follow-up assistance. A key component of this contract is to establish and maintain cooperative partnerships with on and off base providers of special needs services for the delivery of integrated program amenities. In addition, BES helps identify gaps in available resources, including those mandated by laws and regulations. Our team’s responsilities include interviewing families to identify and evaluate their special needs and situational stressors, determine services for appropriate assistance, and providing tailored guidance regarding accessing services that are not standard across the Air Force. In addition, BES:
- Provides individual and family consultation services on benefits for family members;
- Conducts annual needs assessment of EFMP sponsors to evaluate requirements of EFMP coded personnel;
- Develops, updates, and maintains installation EFMP education, outreach, and public affairs programs, to include awareness briefings for command, unit, community organizations, individuals, families, and distinguished visitors;
- Develop bi-annual workshops educating Airmen and their families on support services available to special needs families via local, state, and federal resources.
